Our Story

Reclaiming of African Aesthetics

The reclaim of African aesthetics among black women through the ways in which we wear our hair is now a movement. Many women are using hair jewelry like beads, gold cuffs, and multicolored string in to accentuate natural or protective styles such as braids, locs and twists. This “trend” however is rooted in the black hair experience. The wearing of such accessories is intrinsically connected to longstanding African traditions of status and beautification.
